The Dietrich and the Dowager

An encounter in postwar Paris. It's hard to believe, but they're probably about the same age. Hell, it's hard to believe they're the same species...

And, apropos the post below - Marlene and Yul: mad crazy love. Must have been fun to observe. From a distance.

  1. Mrs. Roosevelt was born in 1884; Ms. Dietrich in 1901. So there was actually a 17-year difference between entire generation in "them thar days."

  2. Oh, now - you know Eleanor had a foot, at least, on that poor lady! The original caption identifies her only as "a guest at the embassy".

I think it's the stole that gives her such a Rooseveltian air. That and the chinlessness...

  3. Eleanor's probably asking..... do you have any tips for improving my choice of foundation garments?
