File this away for next July: when dressing for warm weather, whether East or West, sari or sheath: it's all about the pearls.
(Why, yes - that is our dear friend the Maharani of Jaipur with ol' whatshername. Aren't they, each in her own way, lovely?)
This photo was in the Jackie Kennedy fashion exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery in DC a few years ago. It was the most wonderful exhibit; I laughed, I cried, I went through it again twice. It detailed the amazing strategic decisions Jackie made on her clothes for foreign trips--colors to match national feelings, hats that suggested native costume, and cuts/covers to not offend the local religious mores. Fascinating!
