Birthday Princess Royal et al.

Let's wish a happy 59th to the hardest working woman in royal business, the admirable Princess Royal. I have a soft spot for Princess Anne, if only because she's carried on with her life with a minimum of the drama that has marred her siblings' doings.

It happens to be a festive day, actually, for a number of Café favorites, including hatchet-faced authoress Edna Ferber, musical innovator Leon Theremin, showbiz survivor Rose Marie, Russ Meyer favorite Uschi Digard, film director who fell to earth Nicolas Roeg and the peerless Julia Child. Oh, and Napoleon. Altogether, that's a group that would make a fun dinner party.

  1. Are you trying to say Uschi Digard is not Her Royal Highness's stage persona? I always thought they were one and the same person. Certainly, the resemblance is uncanny.

  2. You know, I can't say I've ever seen them in the same room...

  3. didn't one of anne's dogs KILL one of mummy's corgis? well, annie's lucky it wasn't one of my corgis because her head would've rolled and plopped into the thames!

  4. Princess Anne, Rose Marie and Julia Child in one breath? And born the same day?

I immediately pictured a dinner table photo. Anne with tiara, Rose Marie marking the occasion with a tiny crown cocked to one side replacing her usual bow, and Julia, not to be outdone, with a crown roast on her head.

    But that's just me...

  5. i just happen to have a photo of myself & dear rosemarie, taken a few years ago. yes, the bow was in place, but just barely. very shaky she, but still retained a soupcon of feistiness.
