Here we find Miss Arlene Dahl, 81 today, in Gainsborough mood. One doesn't usually associate the first Mrs. Lamas with period costume, and while she does look more at home in Balmain or Travilla, she rather carries it off. The fifties patio table? Not so much.

I thought perhaps the lines of the table legs were meant to enhance her figure by following the striping and boning of her corset.

I went to see Karen Knotts, daughter of Don, do a one-woman show. One of the things she talked about was living in Arlene's rented, furnished house, complete with a giant oil portrait of Ms. Dahl that hung in the living room! Can you imagine?
ReplyDeleteToo fabulous! I wonder if she emptied out the closets, or if Karen (let alone Don!) ever wandered around the house in one of her marabou peignoirs (you just know she had dozens)....
