Interrupted Melody is a gorgeous guilty pleasure - a surefire mix of to-die-for sets, fab stage and "real life" costumes (check out the fur-trimmed hostess gown at 1:46), Eleanor Parker's emoting, Eileen Farrell's voice, and "Over the Rainbow", all of it captured in glorious CinemaScope. Who could ask for anything more?
Well, aside from something a little more eye-candy oriented than Glenn Ford as the leading man...
Glenn Ford. There is no other time than the sexless 50s when someone with the charm and vivacity of Stalin era architecture could have a career in the movies. He can't even spell his own name right.
ReplyDeleteMy mother's favorite album when I was growin up was Eileen Farrell's I've Got a Right to Sing the Blues. There ain't nuthin' like a fat Oirish broad singing "Suppertime" to remind you that Lynching was invented in the West O'Ireland.
