Shopping Daze

Well, I'm glad to see that Alice Faye, at least has finished her Christmas shopping...

...'cause I sure as hell haven't.

In fact, I'm finding the whole season something of a trial.  The good people of Golden Handcuffs go in for office parties in a big way, and so the past two weeks have a been a dreary whirl (is that even a possibility?) of bureaucratic festivities, each more obviously obligatory than the last.

Tomorrow is the apex of them all (at least as announced to date), which is so ambitious that it requires wristbands, distributed this morning, for admittance.  At least it looks likely to have a bountiful buffet, as potential attendees are being warned (sotto voce) not show up "toting Tupperware like last year."  The mind reels...

  1. I had a representative from a bank, whose party I was attending as a matter of duty, draw me aside and warn me that if the lawyer from my office put any more appetizers into his suit pockets, they were going to toss him out on his barristeristic ass. I urged them to do so and offered to help. Imagine my disappointment when it didn't go that far.

  2. Also, surely Miss Faye was looking so relieved because she was already thinking about taking off that charming hat and pouring herself a stiff one.

    1. This year, I'm mostly skipping the shopping. Not to mention the hat. That last part, though.... most definitely.

  3. We threw the party for our store staff this past Sunday evening. Sat there looking at 20+ people who work so hard and so well for us. Our (not so) little Farmhouse Family. I got all misty just like I do every year. Call me Fezziwig.

    1. That's a lovely image, Bill. We're really going to have to get ourselves up to check out this remarkable emporium at some point soon. Perhaps you'd consider taking on a couple of stout parties as sales associates? After all these dreary office Christmas parties, I'm not sure I'm going to be persona grata at the office in the New Year...
