The Quarter-Millionaire

So, I don't know how much you look around when you visit here, but over there on the right-hand column there's a lot going on.

Over there - beneath the list of favorite fellow bloggers (Hi, Peter! Hi, Cookie! Hi, Jon! And, maybe most of all, greetings and thanks, Thombeau!), below the Twitter feed (and are you following @CafeMuscato?  You really ought to...), and down below the rather daunting index of all the nonsense I've thought to catalogue as we've gone along - way down there are three fun things:  a map of where all of you come from (a range that never fails to amaze me); the impressively named Live Traffic Feed, which shows when people arrive and from where; and - most germane at the moment - a counter that in an odd moment a few months after I started things up around here I threw in just to see the at-the-time dozen or so hits that would accrue in a given week (oh, ok - month).

Well, after five-years-and-a-bit, I was startled to notice earlier this week that that counter was approaching a minor milestone, and perhaps even by the time you read this will have rolled blithely past 249,999 and on into its second quarter million.  Oh, I know that that an awful lot of those hits are from bots and spiders (and, if the numbers are to be trusted, even more are from people looking for MARISA BERENSON NUDE), but still - kind of cool, no?

Even after all this time, it's still startling to think that there are people (or bots, or spiders - but a few people) from Vancouver and Burbank and São Paulo and Hong Kong (just a few recent stoppers-by) who will pop in and become, however briefly, a part of this little virtual salon.  In case you've gotten this far and are one of them - thank you.

  1. And here I thought you were sharing your net worth.

    Wait -- before I forget: "a men's shirt...a Nehru top...a dog being walked...a priest's cassock...a slave...

    1. I was raised to know that a gentleman never discusses what was referred to grandly in those day's as One's Capital. Now that I have none, it's an easy rule to follow.

As for the the list, I'm afraid I have to guess - things that Miss Vreeland found inherently elegant? Things that bring searchers to your marvelous blog?

    3. Well, I'm a total idiot - I missed the Pyramid clue completely! Here I thought you were making some fabulous abstruse cultural reference, Peter!

  3. I see you passed the big number! How great and of course it's the marvelous content that keeps us coming back, thank you. I believe that is Miss Nettleton in the winner's circle or is it Miss Dalton? If it's the lovely Lois I'm sure she's smiling down from heaven honored to be commemorating such a milestone.

  4. Congratulations, my dear! That's almost the entire population of Verona in Italy, and more than Nottingham in the UK, Aachen in Germany or Baton Rouge, Florida... Jx

  5. Congratulations. But I have to tell you that when I saw the title and had you won the lottery I would have been miffed. One can move to an exciting city, one can get married and one can have a fabulous group of real and online friends in one year, but one cannot, I repeat, cannot also win the lottery as well. That is a standfast rule of life. I know, because I made it up. Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go back to coughing my head off. Congrats on the blog!
