Here we have our old friend the Rajmata of Jaipur, pictured on her wedding day when she was just a plain old princess of Cooch Behar on her way to better things.
I love this snap because, while it documents a real and at least semi-historical occasion, it looks like a still from the kind of fever-dream silent pictures that characters played by Charles Busch make. Actually (and remarkably, for the time) I think that it was a love-match rather than an arranged one between Gayatri Devi and her Jaipurian prince, and it shows.
Also, I'm mad for his jacket, although personally I could never assay anything so close to a princess-cut myself...
