We're Ready

I don't know that I ever really imagined it, but I suppose if I did I would have thought about something impossibly romantic - over Champagne at Maxim's or La Grenouille, or at Luxor at dawn, the sun striking the inner sanctum of the temple of Deir al Bahri.  On top of the Burj Khalifa, or maybe in Central Park, in front of the Alice in Wonderland statue...

In the end, though, I can't imagine anyplace better: in a rented Hyundai Santa Fe, somewhere on the Jersey Turnpike, while listening to the news on NPR.  It wasn't so much a proposal, really, as a mutual agreement, and it follows the first go 'round by some nine years (that one was romantic, on a boat on the Nile with two friends' wedding happening in the background), but here we go.  Now that we can, we're going to.  We're ready, now.

  1. Nothing eloquent to say, just a case of happy gooseflesh and as many good wishes as you can stand.

  3. Lovely however it happens. And unexpected is often charming and makes a nice story. Congratulations.

Now, you were on the NJ Turnpike? You were so close. I thought I felt a disturbance in the Force. Next trip past we must meet to raise a toast.

  4. And your song choice is perfect.

I proposed to Ed on the stage of the Ambassador Theater after a performance of Chicago. I dropped to one knee and, in my best Rex Harrison, "sang" two verses of Marry Me a Little. It was the proposal for our civil union in 2007. If we get full marriage equality, I'm going to have to top it.

  6. Tears in my eyes as I read this. The phrase "now that we can" a simple summation of the choices and opportunities available to so many now.

Although it strikes me that you might be a right bastard to pick a china pattern with....

    My very best
