The dance was always called the "bunny hop" in the midwest!
It's a staple at Egyptian weddings, and definitely as "Raqsat el batreeq" - everybody the Penguin!
It was the "bunny-hop" in NYC, as well. Haven't seen it since the 1970's. It used to be H-U-U-U-U-U-GE.
I was gonna say, looks suspiciously like a certain bunny hop! None the less, I heartily approve.
I believe - but certainly couldnt prove - that there are subtle differences in the kick-step combo among the Penguin, the Bunny Hop, and the Conga (which is, I believe, hop-free).
Now that you mention it, I believe the bunny hop steps to the side, instead of kicking forward. In any case, I had a lot of fun dancing along with this video!
