Meanwhile, at the Hunting Lodge


Sir Edgar paused for a moment, staring out into the rainy garden.

Lord fforbes-Wafflington's suggestion was not wholly unexpected - nor for that matter entirely unwelcome - but the mechanics of it all still seemed more than a little enigmatic. What, he wondered, could he have meant by "a jolly novel use for the Dowager Countess's reticule"?
