"All right then, I'll stuff the envelopes/go get coffee/do the filing..." And when I had a cleaning lady back home, I did indeed clean up before she came. These days? Ermilia practically has to turn me over to fluff the sofa cushions.

And all congratulations on the store. Next time we're moseying up the East Coast, we'll have to drop in. If only to give it the White Glove test...Muscatohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04657061324487851341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-34074824263583127002009-09-04T10:09:04.354-04:002009-09-04T10:09:04.354-04:00We like to refer to the help (Gardener, Nanny, Hou...We like to refer to the help (Gardener, Nanny, Housemaid, Car washer guy etc...) As "Domestic Staff", or occasionally "The Staff".

Stone like to think of himeslf as one of those Balck somkers at the bottom of the ocan, with the things that live off him, and the things that live off them, ad nauseam.

Great post, and Ramadhan Mubarak to you and yours.Suburbanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05722800832006632216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-45935398864181291052009-09-04T10:02:57.872-04:002009-09-04T10:02:57.872-04:00Terrific post, Muscato.
When we opened the store ...Terrific post, Muscato.

When we opened the store 2+ years ago, we had only one employee. And she came to be more like a little sister or daughter than someone who worked for us.

When moving around the corner and doubling in square footage last month, we expanded our staff to 5. Business has been so good that we now have 8 in our employ. And I still can't quite wrap my head around being a boss.

Whenever I'm in the store, I try to do more than everyone else and always tackle the dirty jobs no one wants to do. Peculiar and something I need to get over.

I fear that if I had household help I would find myself cleaning in advance of their cleaning. Not a bad thing, but certainly purpose defeating.

And at the end of the day, I envy your comfort and the time it affords you. I brought the vacuum upstairs 2 weeks ago. It is still sitting next to the coffee table in our office. There is such a covering of dust that if I planted seed and watered, I think I could grow plants on that surface. Most weekday work wraps up around 8 or 9 PM when I am drying the last pot or folding that load of laundry I threw in on the way out the door to the office in the morning.

My plan is for the store to become so successful that I can quit the Really Safe Insurance Company and stay home to clean, cook, launder, garden, putter, tinker and do home repair at my leisure. Of course, I fear I would simply linger longer at the Cafe and on Fabulon and so many things still wouldn't get done.Billhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01851297819829806798noreply@blogger.com
