The one big mystery of it with all those A level stars and the sumptuous production, why wasn't it in color? The whole thing screams out for it.
Tony Martin could certainly sing but he was a piece of wood when called upon to act. Have you ever seen his "performance" in the Charles Boyer part in the remake of Algiers called Casbah? Strictly amateur hour!
I agree about Cyd Charisse, she was an elegant and dignified dancer but always gives off the impression that she thinks she's terribly grand too and aren't we all lucky that she has chosen to share herself with us common folk. Vera-Ellen was a much more talented and resourceful performer and a warmer presence to boot.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-62396464365317051382012-08-12T12:12:14.402-04:002012-08-12T12:12:14.402-04:00She's practically Gothic...She's practically Gothic...Muscatohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04657061324487851341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-53880017290501590932012-08-12T12:11:50.293-04:002012-08-12T12:11:50.293-04:00He had every reason to be confused - for a few yea...He had every reason to be confused - for a few years, the studio kept putting him into musicals, up to and including what is possibly the worst-ever Joan Crawford picture (including even the execrable Trog), Ice Follies of 1939 - in which the big number features Joan walking across the ice on a carpet. Thrilling!

After Ziegfeld Girl, though, he was mostly off the hook, although he did get thrown into The Glenn Miller Story a few years later...Muscatohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04657061324487851341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-34900490184861877692012-08-12T11:45:46.123-04:002012-08-12T11:45:46.123-04:00Eve Arden could arch an eyebrow like nobody else.Eve Arden could arch an eyebrow like nobody else.Yankhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06309872309564393384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-12773610846445382932012-08-11T16:58:51.569-04:002012-08-11T16:58:51.569-04:00Eve looks like she's taking Cousin It out for ...Eve looks like she's taking Cousin It out for a walk.
