When I still had books, I had a number of shelves devoted to that ever-expanding topic. (I eventually had to sell my library.) I'm sure we all recall a time when such tomes were few and far between, and have observed the field grow exponentially. There's always more coming to light, which subtly recontextualizes earlier information. Sometimes I fear that we are the last (and perhaps only) generation that is interested in such things. At any rate, this book sounds marvelous and is now on my list!Thombeauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14610129742797260253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-64375341396610089222015-10-25T17:25:38.061-04:002015-10-25T17:25:38.061-04:00The Buddies stories aside, I prefer Mordden's ...The Buddies stories aside, I prefer Mordden's brilliant entertainment-related writing to his fiction, but How Long is indeed very good and enormously evocative. The musical I didn't know about - I'll have to some digging!Muscatohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04657061324487851341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-15697099164756376402015-10-25T16:09:33.672-04:002015-10-25T16:09:33.672-04:00Any man who could write a musical based upon Max B...Any man who could write a musical based upon Max Beerbohm's Zuleika Dobson is OK by me! Very U.S.-centric; I hope that out there are authors working on similar books on the UK, Germany, and elsewhere.Muscatohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04657061324487851341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7218985326921858943.post-16264214362202604692015-10-24T20:35:21.436-04:002015-10-24T20:35:21.436-04:00I am, as you are probably aware, fascinated by gay...I am, as you are probably aware, fascinated by gay history - and especially some of the tales of yore such as Mother Clap's Molly House or Fanny and Stella - but the battles for our rights, whether here in the UK or in America, have perhaps the most pertinence. Perhaps simply because we were, and in may cases still are, there fighting for those rights. The author deserves praise for producing such a comprehensive tome that could be considered worthy of two volumes! I've read a few in my time that weren't even worth one...
